Something about him that you don't know: Ben has two nicknames – 'Nipper' and '40/20', because, according to his skipper, he's a 40-year-old trapped in the body of a 20-year-old.

Who he is: Unassuming but highly talented and just 21 years old, Ben Piggott is the youngest sailor confirmed for the Volvo Ocean Race 2017-18. After taking an unplanned gap year, he found his way to a boatyard and quickly made the step onboard as a bowman on Scallywag's 100ft super maxi. He's since racked up over 45,000 miles offshore doing delivery trips – but he still jokes that the thought of doing the Volvo Ocean Race is 'insane'.
