German marine litter clean-up vessel joins Clean Seas

March 10, 2018 16:25 UTC

One Earth - One Ocean e.V has agreed to support the UN Environment #CleanSeas campaign.

The environmental organisation based in Munich, Germany, aims to free oceans from plastic waste, but also from oil and pollutants. Founder Günther Bonin initiated the multi-stage concept of a “marine litter clean-up”, where plastic waste is collected by special refuse collection vessels before being recycled or converted back into oil.

One Earth - One Ocean is in addition involved in the fields of oil purification, microplastics, research, education and documentation of marine littering, in order to achieve a change in the behavior of people with regards to plastic waste.

In january 2018 the organisation went to Hong Kong with its first marine litter collecting ship SEEKUH. One Earth - One Ocean's goal is to have noticeably reduced the problem of plastic waste by 2050, on the one hand through appropriate cleaning options, and on the other through increased environmental awareness worldwide.
