Something about her that you didn't know: Martine is the first Brazilian female to ever compete in the Volvo Ocean Race – and says she takes her inspiration from another pioneer, British polar explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton.
Who is she: Martine lines up for her first Volvo Ocean Race having made her name on the Olympic circuit – and in 2016, she took gold in her home Olympic Games in Rio, clinching the win alongside sailing partner Kahena Kunze in front of thousands of fans in Guanabara Bay. Although this is her first time competing in the Volvo Ocean Race, she's no stranger to the event. Her father, Torben Grael – as well as being Brazil’s most successful Olympic sailor, with five medals – has taken part in the race three times, and won the 2008-09 edition as skipper of Ericsson 4.
