Something about him that you don't know: Nicolai's nickname is 'smølf', which means 'smurf' in Danish!
Who he is: As a young Optimist sailor, Nicolai once made a pact with his mum and dad to never take part in the Volvo Ocean Race in exchange for a brand new boat that season. Now taking part in his second race around the world (after competing onboard Team Vestas Wind in 2014-15), he says his parents have forgiven him for twice breaking his word. Best known as a skipper on the fast-paced World Match Racing Tour, Nicolai admits to being an unashamed speed freak out on the ocean.
