Teams 2014-15

Meet the teams of 2014-15

Our race is all about the people bold enough to compete in it. Discover our sailors of the 12th edition, where they came from and how they made the cut to take part in this round-the-world adventure.

2014-15 was an historic edition: seven teams, 19 nationalities and an all-female crew racing against Volvo Ocean Race veterans and first-time rookies.

Sailors came from China, UK, France, the USA, Spain, Australia, Belgium, Denmark, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Sweden, Switzerland, UAE, Argentina, Brazil and Antigua – one of the most diverse fleets ever.

So, what did a 2014-15 Volvo Ocean Race crew look like?

Each team had eight sailors plus one non-sailing multimedia reporter onboard, except Team SCA, the all-female team. They raced with 11 sailors plus one non-sailing multimedia reporter.

Each team had to race with two crew members born after 1st October 1984, known as the “Under 30s.”

And all boats had to qualify by sailing 2,000nm non-stop (3,700km) pre-race.
